Projects delivered by Alan Caldwell Associates

Seton Fields Big Lottery Application

The Seton Fields Community Company are bidding for Big Lottery funds through the Growing Community Assets Programme to assist with the purchase of 113 acres of land to benefit their community.  Alan has just completed a survey exercise to help define local need and contribute to the business plan for this exciting project.

As many of you will know, working through the Community Right to Buy bid process of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act imposes a very tight timetable on communites seeking to purchase land in this way.  Add the rigorous requirements of Big Lottery funding and local communities have to be really 'on the ball' to advance projects successfully. The Seton Fields Community Company are making an excellent job of taking things forward and I was delighted to be asked to play a small role in their project by designing, delivering and reporting on a survey to define local need for their project.

Working alongside Sue Guy from the Scottish Participatory Initiatives we had only two weeks to test local views on the need for this project.  We managed to exceed our target of a 10% survey return (607 completed) using a whole range of techniques.  Working alongside local agencies, groups and volunteers from the Community Company we 'blitzed' the local area with excellent press coverage, going directly to schools and targetting local groups through the 2 community centres in the area.

The results showed a compelling casein support of the project and we wish the Community Company all the best in securing the land and the funding required.  For full information about this project see their website here.
