Glasgow Calling - New Trusts and Masterplanning

We are delighted to be working with inner city communites again after our workload has been dominated by policy and rural work over the last few months. We are helping to set up a new Development Trust in the Oatlands area of of the city.  This Trust will lead the redevelopment of the derelict St Margaret's Church into a multi-purpose community centre and workspace.  We are also working with our associates EKOS and HTA Architects to produce a community masterplan for the Camlachie community in the East End.

Oatlands

The Glasgow Building Preservation Society have been working with the local community on the feasibilty of transforning the derelict St Margarets Church as a crucial piece in the wider regeneration of this area.  This complicated project wil require a £4 million capital budget to transform it into a badly needed community centre and workspace.  There is a strong partnership involving the local regeneration agency (GSERA), Community Planning Partnrership, Clyde Gateway and the owners of the building, the City Council.  We have been involved in detailed negotiation and the preparation of the funding application to the Big Lottery reopened Growing Community Asset Programme.

Most importantly we have been helping local residents to form their new Development Trust and prepare their plans for St Margraets and other priorities in the area.  Recently we have helped to secure the revenue funding to appoint a Development Officer to work with the group over the coming months.

Camlachie

EKOS consultants recently won the contract to produce a community masterplan for this area of Barrowfield in the east end of Glasgow adjacent to Celtic Football Park.  The area has a focus of attention just now and we were invited to join the team and provide the community development and design support with our associates HTA architects.  Working closely with the West Of Scotland Housing Association and the Glasgoew East Regenertion Area work has just started with the local residents and the fledgling Camlachie Development Group.  One of the first things we are going to do is to visit a couple of other, more experienced Trusts in Glasgow to inspire local residents and show them what can be achieved.
