‘Inspiring Change Events’

Following the success of the 'Inspiring Change' publication written for the Development Trust Association Scotland, Alan is now offering ‘Inspiring Change Events’ to companies, charities, public sector organisations and local communities. For examples of events to date read more.

Alan has run a number of ‘Inspiring Change’ events since the publication of the best practice guide in September 2009. These have ranged from whole day seminars to evening discussions. Each event is tailored to meet the needs of the client, their particular interests and the stage of their work. The common theme is bringing innovative examples of community regeneration and low carbon futures to excite and provoke. The latest event was run for the Dalkeith and Woodburn Community Association at the end of March.  This group are considering establishing a Development Trust for their area.

In October, Alan ran a half-day event for a major corporate sector client in the energy field. Increasingly they are looking to communities as development partners on renewable energy projects. The event gave staff an insight into the legal structures of Development Trusts, potential funding sources and how best to engage and work with a community-based organisation.

Also in October, an experienced Development Trust asked Alan and one of his associates to run an event on the potential of community land development and how best to implement the community right to buy legislation of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003

In November, Alan ran an evening discussion to a packed village hall in the highlands organised by a small group of residents interested in setting up a Development Trust. This covered the earliest stages of motivating your community and the importance of building a strong vision for the future. It also covered just how a community can go about preparing a strategic plan for the future and organising itself to make things happen.

In early December, a major national charity organised a small seminar for trustees and senior staff to look at what the priorities for low carbon communities over the next 10 years.  Early requests in 2010 have come from groups in Dalkeith, Dunbar, Perth and in Tenby in Pembrokshire.

In the first half of 2010 Alan has run events in Waterford (Ireland), Linlithgow, Dalkeith and in Campbeltown with more in the pipeline for the summer period,
