Sleat Community Master Plan - Presentation

How do we want Sleat on the Isle of Skye to be in 10,20 or even 30 years time? This is the question being asked by the Sleat Community Trust as they look to renew their first plan for the area prepared 5 years ago.

Alan visited Sleat in early November 2009 and spoke to around 40 Trust members about the potential of community masterplanning. The Trust feel it is now time to move on, reorganise the organisation and set a vision and community masterplan for their area.  Afte r showing the new DVD from the DTAS publication 'Inspiring Change', Alan explained how communities could come together in a process of visioning and masterplanning. This sets out in clear terms what the community wants to achieve, how everyone can get involved and most importantly how it will achieve it. By working alon gside the Clan Donald Land Trust and their exciting new development at Kilbeg, the Trust is hoping to pool resources to get work underway quickly. Alan used practical examples during the presentation from Tramore in Ireland, Westray in Orkney and Comrie in Perthshire to bring the possibilities of community masterplanning to life.

In May 2010 Alan was invited back by the Trust to run a starting workshop for board members to prepare the ground for the community masterplan.  As well as delivering the one day event Alan is helping the Trust to secure the funding for the work ahead.  The immediate outcome of the event is a clear structure for the community masterplan outlining the 2020 vision, current situation, themes and projects and actions.  This will be used to support the Trust's funding case to Community Energy Scotland for their planned community owned wind turbine.
